A Sign of The Times

By now, I do not think that many of the people reading or listening to this would argue the fact that we are getting evermore nearer to the end of this world. There are signs everywhere, especially evident to those that are seeking Christ in Truth, but not only them: many people who do not claim to follow Christ are also beginning to see things for what they really are. I personally believe that this is the beginning of Jesus Christ’s second coming or revealing of Himself to this world again.
The thing is, that many are not exactly excited for the return of Jesus. They like this world just as it is and so they try to convince themselves and others that God’s Holy Word is not true. They want to believe that there is no second coming, or that it will not take place in their lifetime, right? Ever see an ostrich stick their head in the sand to hide? Unfortunately for them, reality is that whatever it is that scared them is still lurking and their entire body is still sticking out and in jeopardy of being attacked. Even though they cannot see reality, that does not change it.
Some people want to live it up in this world until the last minute and then they believe that they can come to Christ in a split second to be saved. That is because this world teaches that salvation in Christ occurs in a moment of time, when this is totally contrary to the teachings of Christ. Even so, for this reason, they are looking for the signs because they want to get that last pleasure in before they have to commit, right? Some think that they were saved in a moment of time and that now that can go on and continue to sin and live the same or somewhat the same as they did prior to “accepting” Jesus (as they think they did.)
2 Timothy 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Look here what Jesus had to say about the signs of the times:
Matthew 16:1-4 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired Him that He would shew them a sign from heaven. 2He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And He left them, and departed.
“A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.” Do you think we might say that this is a wicked and perverse generation??? Each generation continues to get worse, doesn’t it? However, they are seeking signs, aren’t they? They go to church, tarot readings, practice rituals from many different religions, etc. The sign that they are looking for is not the sign that will be seen. Instead they will only hear about God’s love and about the wrath to come for those that are not diligent in seeking Him for it.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and thatHe is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
I’d like to discuss here an sign that is often overlooked as a sign of Christ’s coming, but is growing in leaps and bounds in what seems to be each day, in this world. Here is the sign that I am talking about:
Matthew 24:10-12 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Now, isn’t that a glaring sign in today’s world? Why is even the natural love of many failing (other than the fact that God’s Word says that it will)? The simple answer is: they do not know The Truth! I am talking about The Truth about what God really expects from one of His Children… some may be surprised where I am going with this.
1 Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
Many people are not willing to seek God diligently, as the scripture there in Hebrews mentioned earlier. Because they fail to do this, they never find The Real Truth of The Gospel. When I say “never find”, I mean that they never experience Truth working in their lives because they either do not know it, or when they hear it they judge God’s Word by their own actions and therefore never fully believe The Truth. Just remember, Jesus is The Truth!
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.
The Truth is that God’s wants a friendship with us; a mutual commitment together in His righteousness. The problem? This world is corrupt and full of lies and hypocrisy! Most people in this world will not tell you The Truth because they simply do not know it themselves. Many think that they do but…
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
What happens though when you find Truth? -You find God!!! What it means to “find God” is really a wonderful mystery that you will only know once He has revealed Himself to you and when you also believe what He has to say about The Truth.
To scratch the surface of “finding God”, let’s first identify who He is…
1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
Pretty simple, right? Okay, we can go home now? NO!- let’s continue on.
The True Love of God involves His righteousness. “Righteousness” is the state of a person doing what is right. You might say that “love” is “righteousness.” I say this because the scripture tells us that “God is love.” It also tells us that He is righteous in all His ways. Talk about character!
Psalms 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.
Did you know that God wants to share His love with us? You do realize that love is a two-way street, don’t you? You cannot have a loving relationship with someone when you love them, but they do not love you in return, right?
1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
Are we showing others love when we betray them or do evil to them? When someone makes a commitment to you, like let’s say in marriage, do you not have an understanding of what behaviors are now acceptable, and which ones are not? Is your spouse showing you love if they do not do what they agreed to? Have you made a commitment to Christ? What was that commitment? Do you know what commitment He is looking for? Remember when I said earlier that He wants to share His love with us? Just like a husband and wife do, right?
Here is a part where Jesus is telling us what commitment He is wishing to make to us, and what He expects in return:
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Remember… Psalms 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.
And now… John 14:13-15 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15If ye love Me, keep my commandments.
What is the opposite of righteousness? -That would be “sin”, of course. You might also then say that “sin” is the opposite of “love.” Righteousness is to keep God’s commandments. Sin is the rebel against them or break them.
1 John 3:4-7 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. 6Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him. 7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.
Is it all coming together for you now? The love of many is waxing cold because true love is not “selfish” but rather “selfless”. I was listening to a priest today who said that we have to love ourselves, but God’s Word tells us to deny ourselves and to love others.
Luke 9:23-25 And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
1 John 4:20-21 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
The love of many is waxing cold because they do not love God, proven in the fact that they are not willing to keep His commandments. People used to care about their reputation, their character, their integrity. I’m afraid that the cares of this world, pride for themselves, and downright hatefulness has set in on the majority. They have given up on goodness.
They have turned their back on brotherly kindness or even the general care for their neighbors. They kill their own babies and use the remains to make products that they believe make them more beautiful, when inside they are murderers. They will not wait for you to cross the crosswalk, but they will walk as slow as they possibly can (as if it is intentional) when you are waiting on them to cross. They do not want to work, but they want others to work to provide their supplies and services.
But what does the Love of God tell us to do?
Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
I believe that Our Lord and savior is soon to return! He is coming back for a people who have made themselves ready…
Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife hath made herself ready.
How long does it take? Certainly not likely your lifetime, but the plan of salvation that God has authored through Our Lord Jesus Christ does take time. When will the last person come in? I do not know. All that I know is that myself and others have been called to preach the gospel of the kingdom, and as of right now, He is still granting us time to do so.
Mark 6:10-12 And He said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place. 11And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
Don’t let time run out on you, my friend. There is nothing more important in your life than to seek and find Jesus Christ in Truth, for real. That’s why we are here! -For His sake, and His glory!
Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love Me; and those that seek Me early shall find Me.
I’d like to leave you all with some scripture that proves out the fact that we must not only know The Truth, but also to be obedient to God, and that this will yield The Love of God as we become part of Him in the end of our journey through this world, to exit into eternity with Him.
1 Peter 1:19-25 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21Who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
