God's Word Mixed with Faith

No doubt that the entire world has heard of Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day. Many may not believe this, but there are also many who do and who have believed this in their lifetimes. The thing is, though, that Jesus tells us…

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

How many are “few”? Well, in another place Jesus said:

Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

How many people do you suppose were on Earth in Noah’s day? I do not know the number, but I know that it was many because God’s Word says-

We can find in the scripture that men lived to be much older in the beginning than they do now, so it stands to reason that the entire face of the earth was populated. With this understanding, it is easy to see that there cannot possibly be congregations of people within the tens of thousands of churches who claim to be “Christian” that will be saved. Just think about how many people fall into this number over time since Christ walked the earth. When our Lord says few, He means “few”!

Does this then mean that we should give it up, pack up, go home, and live it up because we do not stand a chance with God? – NO! What this simply means is that, if we are going to be one of the “few” that Jesus mentions, we cannot be part of the majority who claim to be followers of Christ. We must rather “diligently seek Him” as the opening verse stated and find the sincere Truth of the matter, concerning what God expects of us.

Whatever we do, we do not want to hear these words:

Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Do you suppose that these people who professed that they had prophesied in the name of Jesus, and who performed all of these many works that they believed that God would find acceptable believed in the death, burial, and resurrection? I think that we could say yes and no to that question. Here is why… a person might believe that Christ was crucified and died a physical death, was placed in the tomb as the bible tells us, and then did rise and walk again on the third day – because He did physically do all of these things. However, do they believe and understand the spiritual side of these details? Do they have faith that God will also perform these things in them (spiritually speaking) in this life, without flaw, like He did when He was physically present with us walking the Earth? Remember this?

Mark 8:34 And when He had called the people unto Him with His disciples also, He said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

I sincerely hope that everyone listening here has an open mind to learn and to do the Will of God! Did you know that there is such a thing as dead faith? Do you know what dead faith is? I’ll give you a hint: it happens when a person hears God’s Word, agrees with it, but that is about as far as it goes with them. Sure, they may read God’s Word. They may even repeat God’s Word, but were the rubber meets the road, they do not take action, but instead make excuses. You see, sin is addictive. And, we know that many addictions can be deadly!

Take someone who smokes, for instance. It has been proven that smoking tobacco is a very risky business; that a person who does this is likely to come down with something that will kill them, right? If you know a person who smokes, and you remind them of this, they may say that they want to quit, right? But the question is, will they ever get around to it before it is too late? The problem is that the addiction is pleasurable, or by giving into it, the addict avoids the pain of giving it up. Sin is no different. There are pleasures in sin.

Hebrews 11:24-25 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season

Yes, sin is no different, but it can be overcome with willpower! -I am not talking about your will, but sin can be overcome by the Will of God!

James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

So here is the thing that many are not hearing in the streets, or even in many churches: the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ was a type and shadow of what must take place within a person spiritually in order to save them from hell. The fact is, that “The Gospel of Christ” is much more than the summary statement of His death, burial, and resurrection. The Gospel is contained within the entire New Testament scriptures. Therein is the Truth of God’s Will in depth. Contrary to the popular beliefs of the majority: God wants us to know how we are saved! As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ came to this world to teach us what we need to know in order to be saved.

Romans 1:16-20 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse

So, what is the problem? Again- it is dead faith… read verse 18 and 19 again.

Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Now, where it says “not being mixed with faith in them that heard it”, we understand that we are talking about the real living faith that only comes from the knowledge and understanding of the Truth of God’s Holy Word. In many cases, unfortunately, I believe that it is because they do not read for themselves and are not taught the depth of all of the knowledge what is really in God’s Word. The sad fact of the matter is that Truth has not been preached by 99% of the religious world throughout all ages, I’m afraid.

Colossians 1:26-29 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to His saints: 27To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 29Whereunto I also labour, striving according to His working, which worketh in me mightily.

What mystery? What knowledge are we searching for in God’s Word? To what end?

Luke 1:77-79 To give knowledge of salvation unto His people by the remission of their sins, 78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Now, I do not know about you, but I for one want to be found in peace with God!

2 Peter 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Speaking of… now we are talking about the wisdom and knowledge that we find in within God’s Word. How do we find it?

John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Just what “Truth” are we talking about here?

Now, doing right in the sight of God is no new concept here Folks:

Isaiah 1:18-21 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: 20But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. 21How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

The common reply that a person will get when they bring these thing up is, “no one is perfect.” Sounds like the excuse of an addict to me. What about Jesus? Are you saying that He is not perfect? God forbid! He is perfect, and, if He is living inside of you, this will not change His behavior!

2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him.

Psalms 18:32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Yes, this is a “faith thing”. Our body is the temple of God, if we have sincerely yielded it unto Him, He has taken up residency within us. Do you possess the Spirit of God? Has He truly begun a work in you? If so, His power works through our faith. We will all stand before Him to be judged according to our own faith:

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Are you a believer? The best advice then is to continue in His Word, as He said for us to do, and to be obedient as God reveals Himself to you.

Have you allowed the Word of God that was committed unto you to be mixed with faith? Are you striving for obedience?

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

We were never promised that it would be easy…

Matthew 7:15 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Who are we fighting? Sin, self, and satan…

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Here are some examples to instruct us in our death, burial, and resurrection…

1 Peter 3:17-20 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. 18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

1 Peter 5:6-11 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: 7Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. 8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:11-14 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 13I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ
