Works that Deny Christ

Continuing on with the current topic that we have been on for a while now of “Works, Works, and more Works”: during our last time together we talked about “Works of The Spirit of God”. These works bring glory to God and Our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, I’d like to discuss the opposite. Those works do not bring glory to God, but instead bring glory to mankind. The works that deny Christ (The Truth) bring glory to our flesh rather than God our Creator. What works does God want us to have? Well, it’s definitely not the works that bring glory to ourselves! Jesus, our example, did not tell us to deny Him. He told us to deny ourselves. But what did He mean by this? Hebrews 4:9-10 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10For he that is entered into His rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His. So, what are our works? Well, what works were we performing before we came to God? To make this simple: what works were we able to perform before we came to God? – Our own works, yes. But we are made of flesh, right? If then we are made of flesh, then what are the only works that we are capable of within our own means? You got it – “Works of The Flesh”! What are the works of the flesh? Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. What else might we call these “works of the flesh”? Yes – SIN! What will sin get us? Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Now, I believe that we already established before that we must have works: James 2:14-17 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Many may and will say, “I do all kinds of ‘’good’’ works”. And some are telling the truth. The problem isn’t the good works (necessarily – we will get into that later), but the evil works that separate us from The Lord. Revelation 3:13-16 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Matthew 7:19-23 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Iniquity? Yes – Psalms 119:1-3 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. 2Blessed are they that keep His testimonies, and that seek Him with the whole heart. 3They also do no iniquity: they walk in His ways. See God isn’t satisfied with Christian actors. He is only pleased with sons and daughters of God. Sons and daughters have attributes of their Father in Heaven! If we claim to be a child of God, but we do not act like one, we are guilty of iniquity; and we have essentially denied Him through our confession that has been corrupted by our own evil works. -If we are still walking in sin that is. If we are still walking in sin, then we are denying that Christ is in us through our own, evil works. You either have Him, or you don’t. You’ve either been cleansed and saved from sin with Jesus walking in you, or you have not. Now some may be currently in the process of being saved, but have not yet overcome this world entirely. The Word of God does, in fact teach that being saved is a process, you know. This takes patience; the type of patience that only God can give us. This is the kind of patience that is learned through suffering. It is referred to as “the patience of the saints” in the Bible. So, are you a saint or a sinner? Are your works pure in the sight of God? All of them? That, my friends, is what He wants to do for us. But if we do not believe that He can, well… 2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: if we deny Him, He also will deny us 2 Timothy 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Titus 1:15-16 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. What should we do then? Ask God for deliverance! Romans 8:11-14 But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Colossians 3:1-10 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory. 5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created Him We see here, that it is simply not enough to perform “good works” in the sight of God, but that we must also cease from performing the works of the flesh, which are the works of sin. For this “duty”, we must have the indwelling Spirit of God, as mentioned in our last study together. As a matter of fact, get this: Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 1 Peter 4:1-3 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries Romans 3:24-25 Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God Buckle-up here! If you are going to serve God in The Light of The Truth, you are not going to be everyone’s favorite person. They will blame you, make fun of you, and even accuse you of being evil. They did Jesus. If He is living His life through you, what do you suppose will happen? Do you think that this world has gotten better since they crucified Him? Of course not. Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. John 15:18-20 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. What does this world really think of good works? Works of God even? 1 Peter 2:11-12 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14Who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Now, be careful about using that “good works” term too loosely! Can you recall our two lists of works? Here they are again.

Works that bring Glory to God Work(s) of God Work of Christ Work of The Lord Work(s) of Righteousness Works of Faith Work of Obedience “Good” Works Work of the ministry Works of The Law Work of The Holy Place/The Place Most Holy Work of The Service of The House of God Work of the House of The Lord Work of The Tabernacle Work of an evangelist Works that DO NOT bring Glory to God Work of The Service of The House of God Work of the House of The Lord Work of The Tabernacle Work of an evangelist Works of “Dead” Faith Work of Disobedience “Good” Works Work of the ministry Works of The Law Work of the field Work of a Man Work of men’s hands Our “own”works Works of “nought” Works of the devil Works of the flesh “Evil” Works Works of Darkness Work of Error(s) “Work of The Lord “Deceitfully””

Notice that some of the “works that DO NOT bring Glory to God” would be on a “good works” list in the book of some people? What did Jesus say again about some “good works”?

Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Wouldn’t everyone here agree that we all have our own spirit? Did you know that, according to the bible, our spirit is our mind?

Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind

Ever hear someone say “speak your mind”? Well, that is exactly what each of us are doing whenever we tell others our thoughts, isn’t it? If we possess the Gift of The Spirit of God within, then God’s Spirit will come out of our mouth when we talk. Make sense?

Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Okay then. So, if Jesus is walking in us, we could very well say that He is walking (present tense) in the flesh, right? He is living His life within us?

Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.

If these things are true in our own personal life, then we will have this profession:

1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God

But what if a person were to confess that Jesus was living life through them, but in reality He was not? You know, In Him is NO SIN, and there is NO SIN in Him! He is not capable of it! What if a person were to say that they are saved by Christ and that He is in them, but in the same breath they were to say that it is impossible for a man (or woman) to walk this earth in God’s righteousness, and without sin? Wouldn’t they be saying that Jesus is not able to walk in them, since He is not capable of sin? Are they stronger than Him and able to make Him sin along with them? When they sin, He is along of the ride? Please do not ever make such a ridiculous statement!!!

1 John 3:5-8 And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. 6Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him. 7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. 8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 4:3-6 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than He that is in the world. 5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Hopefully by now, we have, at the least expelled the myth that works are not necessary to salvation and have proven that no Sin shall enter into heaven? It must be dealt with while we are alive on this earth. That is what we are all here for. Remember this scripture?

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight

I was recently watching some people talking about their faith and I came across this quote that is very true… “Faith that has not been tested is faith that cannot be trusted.” – Steve Harvey

Folks, we are truly living in perilous times. Deception has been widespread upon this earth for hundreds of years. It’s time to wake up and hear His voice. I’m not even asking you to accept what I am saying. All that I am asking is that you search God’s Word for yourself and let Him prove to you who is telling the truth about His plan of salvation to those that will believe the Truth of the matter. They say that we are what we eat. Remember – the proof is in the pudding: eat it and you will find out! Eat enough of God’s Word and pray for Him to give you the understanding and you will find reality of the matter.

2 Peter 2:1-18 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

Sin is the works of the flesh. These deny Christ because they are in direct rebellion to His Will. If we were to have a confession that we follow Him, but still live in sin, we are found to be a liar because “in Him is no sin.” Salvation is a process of being cleansed from, and thereby saved from all sin. If we allow Him to remove it from the inside out, then there is no longer any lust there to temp us with sin. This world is corrupt with sin. We have been charged with overcoming it within our mortal lives. If you are, stop denying Him. “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord” – Exodus 14:13. Give your all to Him! He- “I will never leave you, nor forsake thee.” – Hebrews 13:5

1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1 John 1:5-7 This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.
